The Town of Guernsey requires Building Permits and Inspections on ALL new construction and various types of Repair to existing dwellings. If you are thinking about starting a construction project or doing repairs to an existing dwelling contact the Building Inspector.
A successful project starts by contacting the Building Inspector, he is here to help and can tell you if your project does or does not require a Permit.
The Planning & Zoning Commission is a volunteer group of local residents appointed by the Town Council that is dedicated to helping the Town of Guernsey achieve the community’s vision for the future. The board seeks to improve the quality of Guernsey’s built environment, to protect scenic and environmentally sensitive areas, to ensure provisions for needed public facilities, to assist community members in understanding community development, and to improve the community’s quality of life.
The Town of Guernsey also uses the Planning & Zoning Commission to adopt rules relating to planning and zoning matters and to hear and decide on matters referred to the board. The Planning and Zoning Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Town Hall . The meetings are open to the public.
Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement is a difficult topic to breach. However, it is a topic that must be addressed.
Many citizens work very hard to maintain the beauty of Guernsey and the pride we have for this Town. Sadly, there are others who do not.
That is the reason The Town of Guernsey has to appoint a Code Enforcement Officer.
Whenever a resident has a complaint about another resident not doing their part to keep Guernsey beautiful or any Nuisance in general the Code Enforcement Officer is required to look into the matter and determine what the appropriate course of action will be.
It is at this point that the philosophy “People want to do the right thing, they just don’t want to be told to do the right thing” comes into play. Nobody likes being told what to do. We get that, we also know that nobody wants to live by someone that doesn’t care about or maintain their yard.
Many of the weed and grass species are propagated by the wind and if they are not cut or abated they just keep spreading and become everyone’s problem.
